Lara Croft is back !!!. After a long absence from the gaming world, due in no small part to some abysmal games in recent years, everyone's favorite heroine is back. Gamer's can rejoice in the knowing that those responsible for those abominations,(Core Design), have been given the boot and Crystal Dynamics now have the reigns. Rather than try to fix the previous games they have gone back to the roots of the series and have tried to recapture what made the series great, and thankfully they have done a great job.

With The FIFA World cup about to get underway in a matter of days we put the official game through it's paces. The gamemanages to capture the atmosphere of the tournament and the gameplay has its moment's but it is just notas fun and intuitive as other sports titles and the XBox and Ps2 versions have bad issues with slowdown.

Maybe there is no economic simulators admirer that never heard the name of Sid Meier. All the virtual strategists remember tiny railway engines that moved on black-white monitors in 1990 when amazing and original Sid Meier's Railroad Tycoon appeared. It was many long ago but railways theme have not gone out yet. The game Sid Meier's Railroads develops idea that was implemented the first time more than 16 years ago.

While its rivals try to make revolution in RPG genre, NWN series just tries to develop evolutionally. Unhasting game play reminds us high quality RPG we used to play in past times and lets us take a rest from extremely fast modern actions/RPG. But it will hardly become the best RPG of the year.

Even the most optimistic admirers of city building simulators could not imagine how wonderful would become 2006 for them. When we get a lot of shooters of RPGs during one year that is normal but when the same happens with city building strategies this is. at least, extremely unusual.

The initial impressions are always the strongest ones. Especially when we are talking about the game you waited for such a long time. Naturally you demand high performance in this case. Developers put us into the thick of a battle from the very beginning.

When last time you saw the art, wrapped up in graceful packing, of a format PS2? Whether you though remember something from famous clan ' of games for soul '? Whether speaks you something a short word ICO? Few have passed this game and have left it in a collection for years, the majority has missed it, only having cursed out-of-date even the then to diagram and too difficult gameplay. And really, many forces were required to be tried on with increasing with each minute of game claustrophobe, to pacify the capricious chamber and to forgive to game practically complete absence of a plot and 'braked' gameplay. But beaten off from this fine, in effect, of lacks have received in the award some days magnificent, it is a little sad and symbolical game.

But our favourite Introversion Software gave us perfect substitution of silly things like on-line draughts and silly patiences. The name of this substitution is Defcon. Why so? Let's see below.

Unfortunately westerns are forgotten. You may say it with no doubt. There are a few people who read Fennimore Cooper now. Of course, somebody remembers the name of Clint Eastwood who geniusly played a role of unknown cowboy in Sergio Leone's movies and then produced several films himself. But who remembers Goiko Mitich now?

Bad Day L.A. American MacGee cannot make poor games. And if they can they disguise it very carefully. Actually I had thought so for quite a long time before I got an intriguing box in my hands. It was written «Bad Day L.A.» on it. That's it. There is really bad day in Los Angeles at the moment.

Shattered Union (date: 2006-10-28)

Sometimes developers make advances for experienced gamers and create a remake of some old hit or improve their successful ideas. The genre of war game is not an exception from this rule despite not everybody remembers what it is. Somebody has not even played it. For a long time only a very small group of fans sees hexal field and moving units and bear with absence of graphical superfluities for the wake of the most important thing (in their opinion). For His Majesty Gameplay. PopTop Software studio did not stick to general opinion that war game can't become a beneficial project by definition. Using the latest achievements of graphics and visual effects and inventing conceptual content the PopTop programmers gave hope back to fans. The words 'war game' and 'disgusting' are no synonyms now.

Summer is a period of time that is traditionally poor with great releases. But this year it gladdened city-building admirers very much with the new game of this genre called CivCity: Rome that is quite similar to Glory of the Roman Empire. The authors of such well-known serials as Stronghold and Civilization worked out this new game. And if you remember the Caesar IV release is arranged soon. So water in high aqueducts, clank of Roman legionaries' armor and fire in the cities will dream you every night.

GTI Racing - second sight (date: 2006-10-12)

GTI Racing hides its committal to one of the automobile industry leaders - the German corporation Volkswagen - behind the image of ordinary and quite good racing simulator. For some unknown reason (likes of developers or maybe just lack of money) developers decided to use the cars of Golf class only. Of course, these small but powerful cars are able to compete with many bigger rivals but you feel a little bit offended when you see the whole lineup half an hour after the start. However let us not to characterize it worse than it is. Developers have just decided not to do more than they really could. They chose nice class, they licensed not only cars but spares as well and tried to be 'like all the others' - that is to say they offered several driving modes and dingy tuning. As a result, we have quite a middling racing simulator you may play a little bit - up to the moment some really high quality game appears.
