Having made the game, developers gave much attention to graphics. Having used old Aurora system they created a new one called Electron. Its purpose was to surpass the rivals – Oblivion and Gothic 3. The task was successfully completed but only in the field of system requirements. Of course, some official system requirements are overstated but in any case many fans of the series will not be able to play NWN 2 on their computers. But the most irritating is that image is too blurred so you will have to maximize it tenfold to take a proper picture, not just cardboard decorations. The only advantage of NWN 2 graphic is realization of shadows. For example, if there are several sources of light an object throws several shadows. So shadow is the brightest element of new graphic.

Developers worked upon NWN 2 for a very long time but they did not succeed to surpass the first part of the game. It especially touches on animation – NPC move like mannequins. To ensure I am telling the truth, just watch their “Victory” emotion. You will never forget this nightmare.

As for soundtrack it evidently did not take enough attention. Short and monotonous compositions irritate and make you want to turn them off. So do it in advance because at any moment you may get a long-long-long dialogue which disables options menu using.

Forgotten Realms waits for demiurges

You may hardly call the world of Neverwinter Nights 2 live. NPC fulfil always the same set of actions with no reaction for our presence. The game lacks additional tasks. Amount and size of locations are strictly limited. But all these disadvantages are rather eliminable due to editor of campaigns so we hope that admirers of the series will help to correct mistakes of developers. But NWN Toolset is an object for another article. And now let’s sum it all up.

While its rivals try to make revolution in RPG genre, NWN series just tries to develop evolutionally. Unhasting game play reminds us high quality RPG we used to play in past times and lets us take a rest from extremely fast modern actions/RPG. But it will hardly become the best RPG of the year.
