Caesar IV Preview

We’ve waited 8 long years for this game; find out if it looks like it’s worth it.

Introduction

It’s been 8 long years since the last Caesar game came out. Caesar was a building simulation game, with lots of good features, but was broken on quite some parts. Even though this strategy game barely has any combat, and is made for the defensive kind of players, it’s still really fun. Now, they are developing the fourth part of the game, finally.

The city looks purty.

What’s cool about the game?

Basically, this will be an ancient version of SimCity. You’ll begin with a couple of skill-less people, but that’s better than nothing. They’ll help you make your city better, but they need something in return. They will need shelter, water, food, sanitation, and entertainment. But, when you want entertainment, you want skillful people, people who can actually make a fun show. Those are specialists. Specialists will include actors or gladiators, so with more specialists, you will make those skill-less people have higher morale, thus making a better city. The better thing is, you will easily make profit with these specialists, because not only do they do no labor, but they will give you huge load of taxes. The game already sounds better. :D

Since it’s been eight long years, there will of course be a huge improvement of graphics. The game will be in 3D! Gasp! Anyway, there will also be a steady framerate in the game, which is important. There will be all of the graphical requirements such as day and night cycles, tangible weather effects, high dynamic range lighting, bump mapping, specular lighting, procedural shadows, and some more stuff. I know that some people cannot afford the best computer out there, some of them will have GeForce 2, or something like that, and I know that sucks, but that’s life. The good thing is, even though your computer will not so amazing; it will still be playable for this game.
What do YOU think of the graphics?

There are also the two required game modes for this game. There will be the career mode, where you start as a small city and slowly become huge after each mission, and then there is the sandbox mode, where you do whatever you want with your city. In the game, you can focus on each citizen in your city. There will be over 75 personalities in the game, and they will have opinion in your city, which will be of great help.

Closing

With a career mode, sandbox mode, personalities, impressive and playable graphics, the game sounds very good. We hope that in the few coming months, there will be more features exposed, and all I can say is that SimCity will have some competition soon.
