Players take on the role of the time agent, named Stanley, and begin in the stone age, facing cavemen, saber-toothed tigers and gorillas. As players recover chips, they are sent to the next levels in time, which include Ancient Rome, Feudal Japan, Medieval Europe, The Age of Conquistadors (players get to fight both Spaniards and Aztecs!), Cowboys, Modern Wars and the Future. Finally they will face the virus itself. It never really is made clear why Stanley has to fight every single person and creature that he runs into, but that doesn't seem to matter.
The game is a combat simulator that is basically a hybrid of typical 2-D fighting games, like Mortal Kombat, and Doom. Players begin with bare fists and must gather weapons as they advance to the next time/era. Each time level has its own unique weapons; swords and spears are the combat arms of choice in ancient times, while shotguns and dynamite can be found in the old west. Laser guns and mono-filament whips make their appearance in the future
